Every other Thursday from 7 to 9 PM, we dim the pendant lights, push the front tables aside, and hand the room over to whoever shows up with something to share. Open Mic Night is the closest thing we have to a Rooted tradition — and after a quieter winter, we’re ready to make this spring our loudest season yet.
If you’ve been here before, you know the format is loose on purpose. Three songs or about ten minutes a person, no cover charge, and a sign-up sheet that goes up at 6:30. Guitars, ukes, poetry, the occasional cello — we’ve hosted them all. One night last fall a regular read a chapter of the novel she’d been writing for two years. Half the room cried into their lattes. The other half asked for a sequel.
What makes it work isn’t the talent (although there is plenty). It’s the listening. We’ve got a rule that phones go face-down when someone steps up, and the espresso machine quiets between sets. It’s a small thing, but it changes the room.
Spring slots are open now for May and June. You can sign up at the counter or shoot us a DM with your name, what you’d like to share, and which date you’re eyeing. First-timers get priority — we love a debut. And if performing isn’t your thing, just come hang. There’s always a back table saved for the quiet supporters, the friends-of-friends, and the people who just wanted somewhere warm to be on a Thursday.
